RUBIACEAE

Stems square, weak, often scrambling over the vegetation. leaves usually ellipticalor lanceolate, unstalked, in whorls, with often leaflike stipules. Flowers in lusters or loose heads, small, open, with usually four petal-lobes. Only Sherarida arvensis has speals. Fruit, a 2-lobed nutlet, a berry in Rubia peregrina.
